The new router is on the way so I'll try and post once I try it. I kept CenturyLink active until I received my Ethernet adapter to install my own router.

They will claim they use this port for security purposes. Hardwired connections like ATT might be secure enough to have the port open, not so much with 5G internet using the cellular network.
